Points to Unlock

Unlocked by

Dairy Cow

The Zebra is unlocked by completing the Dairy Cow challenge.

Zebras are of the genus Equus, and are know for their distinctive black and white stripes. Zebras communicate with each other with high pitched barks and whinnying. Like most members of the Equidae family, zebras are highly social. Zebras feed almost entirely on grasses, but may occasionally eat shrubs, herbs, twigs, leaves and bark. It was previously believed that zebras were white animals with black stripes, since some zebras have white underbellies. Embryological evidence, however, shows that the animal's background color is black and the white stripes and bellies are additions.

Life as a Zebra

The Zebra is the third non-DLC size 5 grazer it is possible to unlock. The Zebra is on par with the fastest animals in the game, making it easier to flee from pursing predators despite the restrictions imposed on it as a size 5 animal. Compared to the Thoroughbred, the Zebra has slightly better base Life and Attack, but slightly lower base Stamina and Hunger. Overall, the Zebra is better at open combat than a Thoroughbred, but the Thoroughbred can last longer while fleeing. A player's play style will ultimately decide which one is more suited to their taste.

Unique Challenges:

Zebras as Prey

Zebras are a rare sight in early years, but they become more common in the mid to late years where they're often found alone around the Yamanote Lines and Yoyogi Park. They'll usually ignore smaller predators that shouldn't be able to clean kill them unless they are attacked first. They are worth a good amount of calories to a predator able to take them down, though doing so can prove difficult if they spot you and run before you can perform a clean kill, as they're hard to catch once they take off.

Possible Glitch

It is possible there is a glitch for almost all the grazing animals, and the zebra is the best example. In the trailer for Tokyo Jungle, there can be seen a whole herd of zebras being chased by a cheetah. It is possible that the zebra being spawned on its own is a glitch, but likely, as very few Grazers seem to form herds beyond three or more, almost all of which are deer and antelope, it is likely that this was a revisement to make them harder to find and make the game more challenging.
